Dido and Aeneas

The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera join forces for Wayne McGregor’s acclaimed fusion of music and movement. Baroque composer Henry Purcell’s classical tale of love thwarted by evil powers stars Sarah Connolly as Dido, Queen of Carthage and Lucas Meachem as Trojan hero Aeneas. Sung in English, with English subtitles.

Eugene Onegin

Director of The Royal Opera, Kasper Holten, made his directorial debut at Covent Garden with this new production of Tchaikovsky’s poignant opera. When Tatyana is introduced to the dashing, unconventional Onegin, she believes that he is the hero of her dreams but he carelessly rejects her – with tragic consequences.

Hansel and Gretel

Diana Damrau and Angelika Kirchschlager star in this acclaimed 2008 production of Engelbert Humperdinck’s famous fairy tale opera. With a libretto based on the Brothers Grimm story, this classic opera features a host of characters including the Sandman, the Dew Fairy, and the Witch.

La bohème

A lost key and an accidental touch of cold hands in the dark – so begins one of the great romances of all opera. When Rodolfo, a penniless poet, meets Mimì, a seamstress, they fall passionately in love. But their happiness is threatened when Rodolfo learns that Mimì is gravely ill in John Copley's striking production.

La Traviata

Verdi’s best-loved work is performed by a star cast in a revival of Richard Eyre’s highly acclaimed 1994 production. Alfredo and the courtesan Violetta fall passionately in love. But Violetta is seriously ill and Alfredo’s father disapproves of their relationship – can their love overcome such obstacles?

Swan Lake

Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov choreograph Tchaikovsky's timeless story of good against evil, in the greatest of Romantic ballets. Prince Siegfried chances upon a flock of swans while out hunting. When one of the swans turns into a beautiful woman he is instantly captivated – will his love prove strong enough to break the evil spell that she is under?

Sylvia

Darcey Bussell and Roberto Bolle star in Frederick Ashton's Sylvia, restored to the splendour of its elegant and opulent three-act form for the 75th anniversary celebrations of The Royal Ballet. With origins in Greek mythology, Sylvia was loved by Aminta, abducted by Orion and eventually rescued by Eros.

The Sleeping Beauty

One of the most popular classical ballets, Marius Petipa’s The Sleeping Beauty is performed by the Royal Ballet on the occasion of the Company's 75th anniversary.

Clowns

Commissioned by the BBC and captured live at Battersea Arts Centre in 2018, Clowns is a bold and sarcastic commentary on society's ever-growing indifference to violence. Directed, choreographed and composed by Hofesh Shechter, this macabre comedy features ten world-class dancers and a striking percussive score, inviting viewers to ponder how far we will go in the name of entertainment.

Cinderella

Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella is a thrilling and evocative reimagining of the classic fairy tale, following Cinderella's fleeting yet enchanting romance with a charismatic RAF pilot amid the tumult of wartime London during the Blitz. Celebrated for his visionary storytelling, Bourne crafts an unforgettable tale of passion and courage with Olivier Award-winning costumes and stage design by Lez Brotherston, and Prokofiev's magnificent score performed by a specially commissioned 60-piece orchestra. Cinderella was captured live at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in 2018.
